Ecotricity - making their own green electricity

Ecotricity – the first green electricity supplier in the UK. Ecotricity generates its own renewable sources, mostly from wind, and supplies both homes and businesses.
Plus, details of how you can help grownupgreen.

Ecotricitywas founded in 1996 by Dale Vince, a grassroots environmentalist, who still runs the company today. Its customer base includes The Body Shop, WWF, Soil Association, Care International, and Co-op Bank.

Conventional electricity generation is the single biggest cause of carbon dioxide emissions – the main gas responsible for climate change. There are only two things we can do to tackle to problem – use less energy, and change the way it is generated.

As a householder, this means becoming more energy efficient by switching off lights, not leaving the TV on standby, insulating lofts and walls etc. But now households can also change the way the electricity is generated.

Switching to Ecotricity means directly helping to establish new green energy, because every penny goes directly into the new build program. Through our customer’s commitment, this year’s new energy has saved over 17,000 tonnes of CO2.

Other suppliers who offer ‘100% green’ tariffs are simply re-cycling old green energy. Buying this makes no difference to the power balance or to carbon emissions as these sources have been available for decades. Ecotricity prefer to supply customers from new sources which continue to make a difference to the environment.

Ecotricity guarantee to match the price of your regional energy supplier when you change to their supply and they will plant a tree for each person who joins.

grownupgreen is affiliated to Ecotricity which means that when you switch to them they make a donation to us to support our work. Use THIS LINK to find out more and if you join Ecotricity, we will receive a donation at no cost to you.
